ALBANY — NYGOP Chair Ed Cox released the following statement:

“Hypocrite Hakeem Jeffries is the last person who should be giving lectures about redistricting.

“Jeffries and New York Democrats attempted to radically gerrymander our congressional districts in 2022. The New York State Court of Appeals thwarted that unconstitutional effort. 

“Just this year, Jeffries was behind the effort to rig the Staten Island/Brooklyn congressional district by creating a racial and political gerrymander. Again he was shot down, this time by the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Jeffries, Hochul, and other New York Democrats insult the intelligence of voters, who strongly supported redistricting reforms in 2014, including a ban on partisan gerrymandering. Democrats tried to torpedo that reform but the people rejected their efforts in 2021. I am confident that they will do so yet again.

“Jeffries has consistently called for racial redistricting, which is antithetical to traditional American notions of equal opportunity and, in the immortal words of Martin Luther King, Jr., judging our fellow citizens not by the color of our skin, but by the content of our character.
