New York–June 25th…New York Republican Chairman Nick Langworthy today blasted New York’s U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand for voting to block Senator Tim Scott’s police reform bill from even being debated on the Senate floor. Langworthy further condemned New York’s Democrat congressional delegation for not speaking out against Speaker Pelosi’s reprehensible comments that “Republicans are trying to get away with the murder of George Floyd.”

Senator Scott, the first African American to represent South Carolina in the U.S. Senate, has been working on his legislation for several years. His bill calls for increasing requirements for use-of-force reports, a tracker on “no-knock” warrants and encouraging agencies to do away with chokeholds or lose federal funding. It had broad support among Republicans, but Senators Schumer and Gillibrand, along with many of their Democrat colleagues, used a procedural vote to block the bill from even being debated.

Senator Scott has been the victim of racist attacks and death threats for his work advancing reform and speaking truth to power about Democrats’ failed policies that have kept black and brown Americans trapped in poverty.

“Today’s Democrat Party and the actions of its leaders represent the most cynical, disgusting, low form of politics that we have ever seen,” said Chairman Langworthy. “They are perfectly content with blocking meaningful reform to keep trying to use this as a campaign issue. What’s happening in Washington is a national embarrassment and New York Democrat representatives are at the center of it.”

He concluded, “Democrats wouldn’t even allow this bill to be debated because their only strategy to win is to dupe Americans into thinking Republicans don’t care about these issues. Their policies have given us decades of failure and keeping people trapped in dependence so they lie, attack and obfuscate. The veil is being lifted on their disgusting playbook and all Americans are seeing their only true motivation is their powerlust.”
