Cox: Democrats Don’t Like Work

ALBANY — NYGOP Chair Ed Cox today released the following statement in response to Washington and Albany Democrats’ obstruction of work requirements for SNAP benefits recipients:

“Democrats in Washington and Albany continue to object to work rules for able-bodied SNAP recipients. Ironically, Governor Hochul has secured a complete waiver of work rules for able bodied adults without dependents through February 2024. It is estimated that over 250,000 SNAP recipients in New York are waived out of work rules because Hochul is still using pandemic unemployment rates to wiggle out of these requirements. The latest unemployment rate for New York is 4.1%, and employers all over New York are begging for workers.

“At a time when Hochul is asking the federal government to grant work permits after 30 days for illegal immigrants and migrants seeking asylum, it is incomprehensible that state government refuses to restore work requirements for able-bodied SNAP recipients. The best way out of government dependency is work. Most New Yorkers get this, but Democrats just don’t like work.”
