Statement from NYGOP Chairman Nick Langworthy on the Final 2020-2021 State Budget
April 3, 2020…“In both process and product, this budget can only be described as a failure for New York taxpayers. While the national economy was booming prior to Coronavirus, New York’s economy was already in dangerous territory with a $6 billion budget gap and the worst economic outlook in the nation. This misguided budget that was cooked up in secret and passed in the dead of night puts the state on a collision course with a full-blown economic crisis.
“While Republican proposals to help small businesses through this unprecedented crisis were blocked, Democrats rammed through their political priorities like taxpayer-funded political campaigns and tax credits for Hollywood. Their bail reform tweaks were merely political window dressing.
“In the days and months ahead, Democrats controlling state government will try to attribute the economic devastation we will face solely to Coronavirus– that is wrong. They will blame Washington and everyone else for their failures when they should have had a reckoning on the harmful policies that are stifling New York’s economy. Sadly, it’s Groundhog Day for New York taxpayers who are consistently disrespected and ignored by their state government. One-party rule has been disastrous for our state and we must restore balance and common sense to New York.”
