Statement from NYGOP Chair Ed Cox on Gov. Hochul signing legislation eliminating present local elections

ALBANY – NYGOP Chair Ed Cox released the following statement in response to Gov. Hochul signing legislation to move most local elections to even years when Presidential and Congressional elections lead the ballot:

“This radical change to long-standing election law effectively nationalizes elections in which voters would otherwise focus on local issues – issues which put progressive Democrats’ atrocious mismanagement of New York in the spotlight.

“With their total control of Albany, the power-hungry progressive Democrats now want to consolidate and make permanent one-party control at every level of government to impose their ideology across the state.

“Gov. Hochul is proving to be a feckless rubber-stamp for reckless legislation pushed through by the progressive Democrat super majorities. We are once again reminded of the corruption of one-party progressive Democrat rule.”
