New York Democrats Give Another Win to Criminals With Legislation to Give Inmates Voting Rights

Albany, NY–October 31st…The Nationals clinched the World Series Championship last night, but it’s New York’s criminals who are really celebrating with a radical new bill that would allow inmates serving prison sentences the right to vote.
Liberal Senator Kevin Parker, who has had his own run-ins with the law, has proposed an outrageous new bill that would give inmates serving their prison sentence the right to vote. Governor Cuomo and Albany Democrats have passed a series of measures giving more rights to criminals, while handcuffing police and prosecutors, including parole for cop-killers, cashless bail and restoring voting rights for felons. This bill goes even further to provide voting rights while convicted criminals are incarcerated.
“The Democrat Party is consumed with catering to criminals instead of law-abiding taxpayers,” fumed New York Republican Chairman Nick Langworthy. “They are systematically eroding our system of justice in favor of criminals’ rights, while the rights of crime victims and law-abiding citizens are completely disregarded.”
Chairman Langworthy concluded, “There are no victimless crimes and convicted criminals serving in prison broke our societal contract. This relentless push to make their life easier, give them more rights and weaken deterrence measures is pure insanity that puts our public safety at risk. New Yorkers are rightly outraged by the radical leftward lurch of the state under Democrat rule.”
Here is a list of Democrat measures that favor criminals:
  • Bill to automatically grant eligibility for Parole at 55 years old;
  • Eliminated risk assessment that cannot factor whether defendant is a danger to public safety when weighing pre-trial release;
  • Discovery Reform: handcuffs prosecutors, gives more rights to defendants;
  • Requiring release and Desk Appearance tickets for all but a handful of violent crimes,  including: second-degree burglary, second-degree robbery, fourth-degree arson, first- or second-degree unlawful imprisonment, drug trafficking, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, and witness tampering and intimidation;
  • Restored voting rights to 36,000 felons;
  • Parole board appointed by Cuomo habitually springs free cop-killers;
  • Free college for inmates;
  • Free personal tablets for inmates;
  • A bill to increased minimum wage for prisoners;
  • A bill allowing convicted felons to serve on juries;
  • And, this bill that allows inmates to vote in prison and prison voter registration drives.
Chairman Langworthy concluded, “There are no victimless crimes and convicted criminals broke our societal contract. This relentless push to make their life easier, weaken deterrence measures and handcuff law enforcement is pure insanity that puts our public safety at risk. New Yorkers are rightly outraged by the radical leftward lurch of the state under Democrat rule.”
