LONG ISLAND — The New York Republican State Committee today mailed a cease-and-desist letter to the New York Democratic State Committee and Gillen for NY regarding their libelous smear of Republican candidate Jeanine Driscoll.
The campaign mailers in question outrageously accuse Jeanine Driscoll, who serves as Hempstead Town Receiver of Taxes, of raising taxes, despite the fact that Ms. Driscoll is not a member of the Town Council that voted on these tax increases and has no vote or role whatsoever in the budgetary process.
“Lying Laura Gillen is at it again,” said NYGOP spokesman David Laska. “As a former Hempstead Town Supervisor, she is intimately familiar with the budgeting process and knows full well that the Receiver of Taxes plays no role in devising or approving tax hikes. If Gillen and the New York Democrat Party continue to flagrantly break the law to divert attention from Gillen’s failed record, the NYGOP will pursue all available legal remedies.”
Laura Gillen’s abysmal record in Congress has been marked by an antipathy toward the truth: she lied about voting for a town tax cut she opposed; she took credit for $6 million in federal funding for her district despite voting against it; she voted against restoring the SALT deduction, which will allow more than 90% of Nassau County taxpayers to fully deduct their state and local tax bills; she opposed eliminating federal taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security benefits; and she voted to defund Border Patrol and restart the Biden migrant crisis.
