NYGOP Renews Call for de Blasio Resignation;
Asks New Yorkers to Join by Signing Petition
New York, NY–July 15, 2019…After first calling for de Blasio’s resignation in June for being an absentee mayor, the NYGOP today renewed its call and asked New Yorkers who agree to join them in signing a petition calling on him to step down.

Then-incoming State Republican Chairman Nick Langworthy and New York City Councilman Joe Borelli stood on the steps of City Hall last month warning of the detrimental impact a presidential run would have on de Blasio’s ability to fulfill his duties as mayor, especially in the case of an unexpected crisis. New York City has experienced two major incidents since de Blasio announced his presidential campaign–this past weekend’s major blackout and a June helicopter accident on the top of a midtown building. De Blasio was campaigning in Iowa during the blackout and had just returned from New Hampshire the morning of the helicopter crash. Both incidents required other officials to step in and get information to the public.
“Let’s be honest, de Blasio is not an effective mayor even when he’s in town, but his mental and physical absence for this delusional presidential campaign has resulted in a full-blown dereliction of duty,” said NYGOP Chairman Nick Langworthy. “We’ve now encountered two major incidents he was disengaged– that by the grace of God were not worse–but required the attention of an engaged chief executive. It’s a total slap in the face to the taxpayers who pay his salary–he needs to go.”
