Albany, NY–June 3rd…Incoming NYGOP Nick Langworthy today blasted Governor Cuomo and legislative Democrats who support a proposal to provide driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants.

Langworthy warned weakening the law to provide driver’s licenses, which is the most widely-accepted government identification, puts our security at risk and creates a haven that incentivizes people to break our immigration laws.

He also noted the undue burden and increased responsibility this would place on the county clerks who oversee motor vehicle bureaus in many counties across the state. The state Association of County Clerks today formally announced their opposition to the proposal.

“It looks like Cuomo is following right in Spitzer’s footsteps with this reckless proposal,” said incoming NYGOP chairman Nick Langworthy. “Andrew Cuomo and Albany Democrats have spent this legislative session making life easier for criminals and lawbreakers, while the taxpaying citizens of New York continue to get screwed under the highest taxes and worst economic outlook in the nation. It’s loud and clear that their only priority is their own political ambition.”

He concluded, “The majority of New Yorkers have come out strongly in opposition to this proposal and any Democrat who tries to ram it through anyway will be held accountable by the voters in next year’s election. We will make sure of it.”
