ALBANY — “In the final days of the legislative session, Albany Democrats are sneaking radical changes to long standing election laws in our state through an unconstitutional bill that would dramatically alter local elections across New York. Their proposal would silence the necessary discussion of local issues in local races and nationalize every election at all levels of government as local issues and concerns will be totally buried under an avalanche of federal and state political spending.
This is a blatant effort to consolidate total, one-party control at every level of government, and establish permanent Democratic authority in our state. After the voters defeated the Democrats’ efforts to illegally gerrymander their districts and weaken the integrity of our elections, the far-left Albany politicians are trying a new path to solidify their political power in New York.
This is further exemplified by the carve out for New York City where the practice there is the swapping of City Council seats for Assembly or Senate seats by the Democrats when their term limits are up only to reclaim their old council seats when they become available again.
New Yorkers of all parties should be deeply disgusted by the repeated attempts by New York Democrats to bend and break our democracy to secure their political power. We urge all New Yorkers to contact their legislators and Governor Hochul to speak out strongly against this unconstitutional proposal.
We won’t let Albany Democrats cancel our local elections and once again NY republicans may be forced to bring legal action to thwart this radical agenda.”
