ALBANY – NYGOP Chair Ed Cox released the following statement in response to a Wall Street Journal piece pointing out that New Yorkers are paying over four times the average cost for wind power:

“New Yorkers are paying an outrageous price for electricity, and it’s all because Governor Hochul and Democrats have bought into a costly green energy fantasy that’s destroying our wallets and economic future.

“New York’s latest offshore wind projects are costing around $150 per megawatt-hour — vastly more than the cost of traditional energy sources like natural gas. This is a disastrous fraud on taxpayers and a clear and present threat to our state’s economy and the financial well-being of every New York family.

“Democrats’ reckless wind power policies are not only inflating electricity costs but also driving businesses out of New York, threatening jobs and economic growth. It’s a betrayal of the hardworking families who are struggling to make ends meet.

“The science is clear: green subsidies have had no meaningful impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Biden and the Democrats claim to ‘follow the science,’ but they are simply pushing an agenda that ignores real data and imposes unnecessary financial burdens on American families.

“American energy policy should be founded on cost-effective solutions that utilize all of America’s vast natural resources while fostering economic growth and energy independence. Democratic leadership in New York has chosen ideological grandstanding over common sense and economic stability. The vast potential of the natural gas resources in our Southern Tier goes untapped, while our citizens watch the wealth and economic benefits being realized just across the border in Pennsylvania.

“We need to prioritize affordable, reliable energy from all resources for all New Yorkers and end this wasteful spending that leave us worse off.”
