ALBANY — NYGOP Chair Ed Cox today released the following statement in response to explosive reports that the State Education Department is covering up Advanced Placement test scores. This is an apparent attempt to hide the fact that public charter schools vastly outperform union-run public schools.

The scandal has led to a lawsuit from Success Academy charter schools and attracted national media attention, including from the Washington Post and the National Review. 

“The State Education Department is deliberately hiding Advanced Placement scores for its charter school students. This artificially lowers charter school ratings and hides the government’s obvious embarrassment over the continued failures of union-run public schools.

“Kathy Hochul is complicit in her silence. This is reason enough to fire Kathy Hochul, Education Commissioner Betty Rosa, and the entire Board of Regents.

“Everyone knows the Board of Regents is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the teachers union and Albany Democrats. The State Constitution should be amended to give the Governor authority to appoint the Education Commissioner, so citizens can know who is responsible for education policy in our state.”
