To the Editor:
Senator Kirstin Gillibrand’s “Upstate Works Plan” will not help her falling approval rating. This new federal spending is an exercise in political pandering to Binghamton voters with no grounding in economics.
In a better economic climate, Gillibrand’s reelection prospects might be helped by the presence of a Democratic President running for reelection. But Obama has already begun pursuing a highly negative, scorched earth campaign.
This strategy is unprecedented in the modern era, but it’s all he's got. Obama's strategy will fail, with serious ramifications for down ballot Democrats -- even in New York.
The Republican Party is on a roll in New York, having just won control of the Broome County Executive seat for the first time since 2004.
The Party is organized and hungry for a statewide win, and a strong Republican challenger to Kirstin Gillibrand can give us just that.
